WHAT IS IT

La coscienza di Mike (Mike’s Conscience) is an essay on the media where Delbecchi looks into the circumstances which made the TV screen a literary subject.

In 1961 an ex RAI (Italy’s National TV network) manager named Umberto Eco wrote an essay titled Fenomenologia di Mike Bongiorno (Phenomenology of Mike Bongiorno). That is when TV criticism was born in Italy. Since then, many writers laid Mike and the other fathers of Italian TV down on the psychiatrist’s table such as;  Luciano Bianciardi, Achille Campanile, Sergio Saviane, Oreste Del Buono, Gian Carlo Fusco, Alberto Bevilacqua, Beniamino Placido. At that time, TV still played a secondary role compared to the press, but it had already started devouring the time, space and credibility that the audience was exclusively recognizing the press to the point of no return.

La coscienza di Mike tells the «confidential story» of this victory (or defeat, depending on which side you look at things from). The writer mixes news, anecdotes and personal memories with the history of a love-hate relation that lasted half a century, the one between written words and visual images on the TV screen. At the same time, he pays tribute to TV and renowned journalists.

During the book fair “Torino che legge”, which took place in April 2016, our students from College Television discussed this adventurous reconstruction of the history of TV criticism in Italy with Delbecchi.

QUESTIONS
Why is this section called Buena Onda?
Because we have always dreamt of lying on a beach in California during the great tides of the Sixties. However, without a surfboard, we know that the waves of the web can give us another type of satisfaction.

If something doesn’t work during the reproduction of the video, how can I complain?
We have created an email address so that you can tell us everything that doesn’t work. We don’t want you to lose a minute of your lesson. So tell us about everything that doesn’t work at miltonclass@scuolaholden.it.
